Why does today's music lack melody, harmony, and soul and tend to be shallow lyrically?
It's part of the "dumbing down" of the public! Stupid people are easier to manipulate; stupidity equals big $ for big business.
Rap, hip-hop and today's mediocre "modern rock" are examples of a concerted effort to destroy great music. Anyone under 30 has been inundated with validations for cheap, negative stupidity from day one!
Psychological geniuses from Madison Avenue have engaged in evil trickery targeting kid's sexual identity, relationships with their parents, desire to have their own identity and the basic need to "fit in."
The result? Young people are convinced that they should be miserable, tattoo covered, body pierced imbeciles who listen to hideous garbage. Great music has been sacrificed because it is a proven threat to the corrupt power structure. The Beatles formed Apple records and got the lion's share of the royalties from the sale of millions of records AND they wrote melodious music with thought provoking lyrics which tends to increase awareness and intellect. The $5 spent on a Beatles record in the 60s is worth almost $70 today. The Fab Four were making much more than $35 million (in today's money) for every million records sold. If a band were to sell 1 million downloads of a 10 song CD on iTunes for $9.90/each they would make around $1/2 million; far less than 1/70th of the profit ratio of The Beatles. Hannah Montana is today's #1 artist. See any connection? Illegal "file-sharing" is another culprit in the crime against great art. Napster could have been shut down by the Library Of Congress within 24 hours. Everyone involved could have been thrown into jail for copyright violations!
Internet Service Providers could have blocked all free music sites and disconnected all that used them. Instead "File-sharing" was hyped by the media! Stealing has been ENCOURAGED to CONDITION the public to EXPECT free music (like they expect free TV). The infrastructure is in place for the transition to 100% ad-supported subscription sites to get your "legal" free music. Soon you will have to watch 5 minutes of ads before you get your "free" song. You'll also have to provide personal information to get tracked and spammed for eternity! Madison Avenue will then be in complete control of the music business and artists will get even less than they do now!!! Rock stars will have Budweiser tattoos, Verizon guitars and Home Depot drums. Extra royalties for mentioning Burger King or Coca Cola in the lyrics. 100% corporate filth; the once rebellious genre of rock n' roll will have effectively been neutered; game over!
